Working as the structural engineer for Wilf Noble Construction Ltd, on behalf of Scarborough Borough Council, we undertook the design of a replacement for the life expired Whitby West Pier Footbridge. The new 12m structure was designed to look like the original listed structure, although the structural form was altered to include a new steel tripod to support one end of the bridge. This was to prevent additional loadings being applied to the adjacent wooden pier extension.
