Rebuilding of a Cottage on Henrietta Street, Whitby

The original cottage suffered with subsidence to an angle of 12.5°, due to the instability of the slope it was built on. The practice successfully worked with English Heritage to ensure that the property was rebuilt. Our design kept the character of the original property but ensured a sound foundation was provided and that the adjacent property was buttressed to prevent further movement. The rebuilding ultimately saved the highly visible property, to both the benefit of the client and to Whitby as a whole.
